Iberis or candytuft plants are extremely easy to grow, but guarantee great results. The gibraltarica variety is no exception, producing clusters of sweet-smelling flowers in May and June. These purple blooms are complemented by linear, evergreen foliage, which also provides a striking backdrop for other species such as Aubretias throughout the season. Iberis gibraltarica are renowned for their resilience, making the hardy perennial particularly suited to mountainous, costal or rocky areas. However, borders and flowerbeds across the UK can also benefit from the excellent ground coverage candytufts offer. Height: 15cm (6″); Spread: 30cm (1’0″).
Culinary information: Both the leaves and flowers of candytuft can be eaten raw and have a taste similar to that of a sweet broccoli. For more details about edible flowers click here.
